
Vinequest Wine Partners has assembled a first-rate team to achieve the vision for acquiring and growing Black Hills Estate Winery. This includes the requisite skill of entrepreneur, winemaker, assistant winemaker, viticulturalist, and vineyard manager to execute the business plan in the Okanagan:
Glenn Fawcett, B.Comm. President of Vinequest Wine Partners GP Ltd., the General Partner.Glenn is a successful entrepreneur with a career spanning over 25 years in the wine, travel, entertainment and hospitality industries. He has raised over $10.0 million in financing for three different start-up operations, and has personally led two other businesses from inception. He is well known through his previous ownership of “Bust
Loose Holidays”, a very successful tour company providing holiday packages to sun destinations for University students in Canada.
Glenn has been connected to the BC wine industry for over 5 years, through the operation of Vinequest- a wine tour company that focuses on the Okanagan. Glenn has run bi-annual wine tours for the Canadian Opimian Society since 2003.
Glenn was the launch manager for the start-up of Therapy Vineyards on the Naramata Bench of B.C. and was instrumental in leading the successful financing of the Therapy Vineyards Limited Partnership. In addition to directing the initial branding, marketing, and publicity for Therapy, he assisted the business in several aspects of the start-up. This included recruiting and hiring management as well as sourcing out the architects and assisting with obtaining the licensing. Therapy has gone on to win numerous awards for both its wine and label design. Further, the Limited Partners of Therapy Vineyards have seen the appraised value of their vineyard land acquired rise from $80,000 in 2004 to nearly $150,000 in 2007.
Subsequent to this, Glenn provided real estate consulting services for “The Rise” resort development in Vernon, B.C which is planning to integrate vineyard and winery amenities with the Fred Couples golf course on site. He was also personally selected by the BCWI to sit on the Provincial task force for developing the BC Wine Tourism Strategic Plan.
As President of the General Partner, Glenn will be directing all day-to-day responsibilities associated with the Partnership.
Senka Tennant. Consulting Winemaker, Black Hills Estate Winery.
Senka has been the winemaker for Black Hills for the last seven years and has been the driving force for the success of the wines. Under her direction, Black Hills has established itself with both the blends of Nota Bene, Alibi, Sequentia and the varietals of Carmenere and Chardonnay. She has been a passionate advocate of letting the wines become a true expression of the terroir of the vineyard to its full advantage.
Senka was one of the four founding partners of Black Hills along with her husband Bob Tennant and Susan & Peter McCarrell. Senka has contracted with the Partnership to stay onboard in the role of Consulting Winemaker until the end of June 2009. She will ensure that the craftsmanship that she has become renowned will be a continuing part of the operation going forward.
Steve Corberry. Assistant Winemaker, Black Hills Estate Winery
Steve has been Senka’s right hand man in the winery for the last four vintages. Functioning as the Cellar hand, he has taken the direction from the Winemaker and done the physical work necessary to process and carefully cellar the Black Hills wine. Prior to this, Steve spent five years at Saturna Island winery as both a cellar hand and their vineyard manager.
Yvon Prince. Vineyard Manager, Black Hills Estate Winery
Yvon has been the vineyard manager for Black Hills for the last five years and has looked after all facets of the operation of the vineyard throughout the year. Prior to Black Hills, Yvon had an additional five years of vineyard experience with Tinhorn Creek Estate winery and Silver Sage winery. Yvon also has extensive mechanical experience with various vineyard machinery.
